Not having 7 kids, being less than 76 years old and misspending my youth playing football instead of doing useful stuff like “liquidating the consequences of nuclear disaster at Chernobyl nuclear power plant”, I never met any of Riga public transport’s inclusive criteria for a fare discount. Joy of joys though! It has been announced this week that starting from 1st January, like other Riga residents, I can now scoot around Riga for half the price that these dodgy foreigners who visit our green and wonderful city pay. My dream of visiting Mūkupurvs in mid-January has suddenly become financially viable. It’s not as generous as the slow guys to the north, whose capital city’s residents enjoy free public transport but it’s a step in the right direction.
